Dear Parents,

The first step of your child’s faith journey may have begun years ago with the sacrament of Holy Baptism.
Baptism symbolizes the beginning of life in a Christian faith community. At baptism, parents, godparents,
and the congregation pledge their support to help these children understand God’s love and grace. As
children grow in this faith and reach their teenage years, the United Church of Christ and the United
Methodist Church present these teens with an opportunity to reaffirm those baptismal vows through the
process of Confirmation.

Our church will be offering a Confirmation Program to High School age youth in Grades 10-12 beginning in
January 2009 with the goal of holding a special service of Confirmation on Pentecost Sunday, May 31,
2009.  We have prepared a series of meetings, retreats, educational and community service experiences to
help these teenagers grow in their understanding of the responsibilities of being a person of faith and living a
Christian life. I believe this program has a tremendous potential to help your teenager explore their personal
faith, to develop a significant relationship with a person in our church who is committed to Christ, to ask
questions, to develop a relationship with God and a gain a deeper sense of commitment to the church.

The success of the program is largely dependent upon Mentoring.  Mentoring is an opportunity for an adult
to work side-by-side with your child to guide, learn, share experiences and make new discoveries together
about their growing faith.

As a parent, your encouragement and participation in this program are also essential.  To assist you in better
understanding the mentoring process as well as the objectives and expectations of the program, we will be
hosting an informational session on

Sunday, November 2, 2008
7:30 – 8:30 P.M.
Fellowship Hall, Brookline Community Church

We have enclosed an overview of the program goals and a course outline for you to review prior to the
meeting. During this session, we will present details on the cost, time and personal commitment involved in
this program. Please come to the meeting with your questions and suggestions so we may work together to
create an environment that fosters the growth of these young Christian disciples.

In the meantime, please feel free to call Ann @ 672-5806 with any concerns or questions.  We look forward
to seeing you and your child on the 2nd of November.

Sincerely,

Ann Desrochers                                        Rev. Dr. David W. Smith
Director of Christian Education                        Minister
