debt and the pursuit of money. The group will study Bible passages that offer
insight into on how to simply your life, give more to the community and find
greater happiness.
                                              CURING AFFLUENZA

Introduction

Many of us are ready to simplify our lives but struggle to find the time, the will or the
know-how to do so.  This series of videotapes investigates a phenomenon, cleverly
named “Affluenza”, that is a widely-observed phenomenon in countries with a
heritage in a Protestant work ethic, especially the United States of America. It
explores the origins of affluenza in the aspirational underpinnings of these cultures
and offers some thoughts on how to understand it, what drives it and how we can
resist the negative aspects of it to live a more satisfying and meaningful life.

Definition

“Affluenza” – The American epidemic of shopping, overwork, debt and the pursuit
of money. The term was coined by Jesse H. O’Neill, a psychotherapist specializing
in wealth-related issues, and a nationally-recognized authority on the psychology of
affluence.

Videotaped Discussion Leader
